  1. What is MVD Express?
MVD Express is a privately run company, contracted by the state of New Mexico, that offers most of the same services as the State Motor Vehicle Division, for an additional fee. One of the biggest differences between the state MVD offices and MVD Express is time: at MVD Express the average wait is 15 minutes. From new drivers licenses, learners permits and IDs, to vehicle registrations and titles, MVD Express will quickly and efficiently take care of all of your state MVD business. MVD Express offers a fast and friendly alternative for anyone from moms and professionals, to seniors and teens, who want to take care of business quickly.

Additionally services are available to anyone in the business community such as car dealers, loan officers, commercial bankers, and lawyers, who handle vehicle registrations, liens and titles in bulk. For all bulk work, MVD Express offers special business rates and completes transactions within 24-48 hours.

  2. Why does it cost more to renew my license or register my
car at MVD Express than it does at a state-run MVD Office?

As privately-run company, MVD Express derives its revenues solely from the additional fees it charges-this company is not subsidized by the state in any way. In fact, MVD Express is completely customer-driven--if it doesn't offer excellent customer service, it won't stay in business. MVD Express charges a premium price so that customers can receive fast, courteous, knowledgeable service and a minimal wait time.

  3. Does the State lose jobs and revenue to MVD Express?
MVD Express does not cost the state of New Mexico jobs or money. Its offices enhance the services of the state MVD by employing 50 additional people, and by offering an alternative to crowded, busy offices. No state employee has ever lost a job due to the privatization of the MVD. Additionally, MVD Express is not subsidized by the state in any way. In fact, the state collects its regular fees from every transaction that MVD Express facilitates, resulting in a minimum of $40,000 a day paid to the state of New Mexico. While MVD Express assumes all financial risk, the state of New Mexico realizes revenue without the associated overhead costs. The bottom line is that MVD Express is a complete profit center for the state of New Mexico and is an excellent example of government working smarter by offering more services without additional taxes.
