We know you’ve heard it before, but let us say it again: Welcome to the Land of Enchantment! MVD Express is your one-stop shop for all of your new resident driver’s license needs.
The process for getting a driver’s license in New Mexico isn’t too hard, and you’ve got us to make the process even easier!
Here’s What You Need for Your New State Driver’s License:
Once you have established your residency in New Mexico, you’ll have to bring the following documents to your nearest MVD Express to get the process for your new state driver’s license going. For a new driver’s license, DMV/MVD requirements are:
- Your Valid Out-Of-State License
- Your Original Social Security Card
- 2 proofs of New Mexico residency
Before you can receive your new driver’s license, the DMV (or MVD as we call it in New Mexico) requires you to take the at-home video tutorial “None for the Road” if you are between the ages of 18 and 24. The “None for the Road” Program is a program for DWI awareness and prevention, and proof of completion of the program will be required before you can receive your driver’s license. This program will also be required if you have ever been convicted of a DUI/DWI regardless of age.
Important Information About Receiving your New Mexico Driver’s License
Once you have applied for your license, you will receive a temporary card from MVD Express. All driver’s licenses in New Mexico are manufactured at a secure facility and then mailed to the cardholder. Typically, your card will arrive 7-10 days after you apply for your license, but delivery may take up to 40 days. We advise that you keep your prior driver’s license (which will be returned to you with a hole punched in it) as back-up identification until your permanent card arrives in the mail. If you don’t receive your license plate, please call us.
