Learning to drive is one of the most exciting, and possibly scariest, times in your life. Waiting to drive can be like an extended Christmas Eve! But driving a car in New Mexico requires a few different steps, especially if you want to keep your motor vehicle record intact. Taking your MVD permit test is the first step to getting your graduated license—and freedom!

The MVD Driving Test: What You Need To Know…

As of September 2012, driving schools in New Mexico are no longer authorized to give student learners permits. That means that you will have one more great reason to come to MVD Express; to receive your learners permit. And, no worries, we offer the written test in case you haven’t completed that. Our friendly customer service agents are happy to walk you through the entire process to help you get your learner’s permit.

…and What You Need to Bring

When you come to MVD Express, you should bring:

  • Your driver education referral card
  • Your original state-issued birth certificate
  • Your original social security card
  • A parent or legal guardian

Keep in mind that, before you apply for a graduated license, you must keep your motor vehicle record clean for the 90 days before you apply.
