As an active member of the United States armed forces, you often have to sacrifice many things, such as spending time at home with your loved ones. Your commitment to the military can take you across the country or around the world, taking you away from loved ones for months at a time.

At MVD Express, we recognize and appreciate the commitment that you have made to protect our country and our freedoms. We know that this amount of commitment can make certain tasks more difficult. Responsibilities like renewing your driver’s license can take a back seat, and at MVD Express, we want to make the process as quick and simple as possible for you. If you have an existing driver’s license in New Mexico and need to have it renewed while you are out-of-state, or even out of the country, MVD Express can help.

What Happens When My Driver’s License Expires?

If your New Mexico driver’s license expires before you are able to renew due to travel or deployment, don’t worry. As an active-duty service member, your license will remain valid up to 31 days after you return from your assignment. The only exception to this rule is if your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked.

Renewal Options

After you complete your assignment or come home from deployment, you have two options to renew your driver’s license at MVD Express:

Renewing over the phone: If your New Mexico driver’s license expired less than a year ago, you have the option of renewing it over the phone. Give us a call at 505-226-9333 to speak to a call center representative.

Renewing in person: If your New Mexico driver’s license expired more than a year ago, or if you just want to visit us in person, you can renew at any of our MVD Express locations.

We’ll make sure to help you renew your license and get you on the road as quickly as possible no matter which option you choose!

What to Bring

You won’t need to bring in many documents to get your license renewed. If your license has been expired for less than a year, all you will need is your previous New Mexico driver’s license.

If your driver’s license has been expired for more than one year, you will have to bring in your discharge documents and your expired license.
