The weather is nice, and the open road is calling. The summertime is the perfect season to road trip with friends or family members.  You can be prepared for road trips to make traveling easier and more fun!

3 Tips to Keep in Mind

Whether this is your first or 50th road trip, there are things to keep in mind in order to ensure your vacation runs smoothly. When you’re road-tripping, remember to:

1. Check your car. No matter what distance you are traveling, always check the oil level, tire pressure and make sure all fluids are topped off. You should even have a mechanic take a look at your vehicle and perform maintenance and make necessary repairs before you get going, such as:

      • Changing the oil
      • Topping off fluids
      • Replacing brake pads and rotors
      • Changing tires
      • Any mechanical issues

If you’re unsure about the reliability of your car, take a look at the rates for renting a car. It’s better to spend a few extra dollars on a rental car than to get stuck in the middle of nowhere.

2. Plan ahead. This doesn’t mean that you have to have every second of your adventure planned out. Planning ahead means that you are familiar with some of the major local attractions and where they are in relation to where you are staying. Also familiarizing yourself with a few of the major streets can really help when you’re trying to find your way back to your hotel. This should also include having a plan for roadside assistance, just in case your vehicle breaks down.

3. Bring a little cash. Sometimes, the unfortunate happens while on vacation. You wallet is stolen or lost with no way of recovery and you need to call or get somewhere. Having a few dollars in cash that you keep in a separate pocket can ensure that you’ll get where you need to go or find some help.

It’s also helpful to ensure that your driver’s license, registration and insurance papers are all in order before you leave. Getting stopped for speeding in another state without proper identification leaves you to taking time out of your vacation to pay a fine or attend court in another state!
