New Mexico has so many amazing sights, sounds and feelings that it is almost impossible to not want to check them out on the back of a motorcycle. If you are new to the Land of Enchantment and ride a bike, make sure you are legal to drive it.

How to Obtain a Motorcycle License in New Mexico

Our state is the best for getting on the open road, but it is imperative you do it safely and legally. In order to get a motorcycle license you may need to complete one or more of the following requirements:

• A written motorcycle license test
• A road test
• Complete a motorcycle safety course
• A combination of all three options listed above

The type of test you will have to take is determined by your age and the type of motorcycle you plan on driving. If you already have a motorcycle license from another state, it does transfer over to New Mexico, and there is no need to reapply until it expires.

Are there different types of Motorcycle Licenses available?

Yes! MVD Express proudly offers three types of motorcycle licenses for varying driver ages (minimum age requirement is 13 years old) and motorcycle types. Once you complete the required course work, you will need to bring proof of completion to one of our locations with the following documents:

• Birth certificate or certified copy
• Social Security card
• 2 proofs of residency (not older than 90 days)
• Proof of motorcycle license test or road test completion

In addition to the documents above, you may also need a parent or guardian signature depending on your age, and eyeglasses or contacts for the vision test.
