No crosses count! Especially not on National Honesty Day.
No crosses count! Especially not on National Honesty Day.

National Honesty Day, April 30th, is a day that we celebrate at MVD Express. Today is the time to speak candidly to loved ones, clear up misconceptions or to tell your sister that it really was you who ate the last piece of candy on Halloween. All you have to do is tell the truth!

Where National Honesty Day Started

Former press secretary and Maryland Governor, M. Hirsh Goldberg, founded the day after years of doing research and publishing his book, The Book of Lies. He felt that April 30th would balance out April Fools’ Day (April 1st) and leave the end of the month on a high note.

Why Honesty is so Important

A recent study has shown that honesty is not just important for your relationships, it’s important for your overall health, too. On average, Americans lie about 11 times a week for reasons like preserving self-esteem or managing their image. The study showed:

      • People who lied less had fewer feelings of sadness or melancholy
      • Those who lied less had fewer physical illness, such as sore throats or fevers

Being more honest can not only reduce stress, it can help to improve your connections with those you are closest to! By being honest, you are able to reduce tension and improve your health. It’s a win/win situation.
