If you’ve had your driver’s license for a few years, you may want to check to make sure it isn’t time to renew. The last thing you want to do is be caught driving on an expired license, but waiting hours in line to complete a simple task is probably a close second. You’ll be happy to know that renewing your license in New Mexico is now easier than ever! Instead of waiting for what seems like forever to renew your license, you can now do it from the comfort of your own home.

At MVD Express, we love seeing you, but now you have the option of spending your time doing something more productive, such as reading a good book or finishing a puzzle. Thanks to Governor Susana Martinez, if you are eligible, you can go online and renew your license. This new rule applies to MVD offices all over the state, making the process fast, easy, and convenient!

Unfortunately, only certain drivers are eligible to renew their licenses online. You are eligible to renew your driver’s license online as long as you:

  • Are between the ages of 18 and 75 years old
  • Have no pending traffic violations or arrest-warrants related to traffic violations
  • Have a license that has not been expired for more than a year
  • Have a license that was lost or stolen
  • Took the picture on your current license after 2008 in an MVD office

Vertical licenses can also be renewed online once the driver turns 21. Renewing your license has never been quicker or easier!

Why Do I Need to Renew My License?

We make your life easy!

Driver’s licenses are only valid for a certain period of time. Typically, you receive your first license when you pass your driver’s test and then you have to renew it again when you turn 21. After that, you will have to renew your license every four to eight years until you reach the age of 79, at which point you will need to renew your driver’s license every year. It’s vital that you take the time to renew your license before it expires because if you are driving with an expired license and you get pulled over by the police, you could end up facing a large fine. If you wait too long and you fail to renew an expired license for five or more years, you will have to take the written and possibly the driver’s test when you finally renew.
