Anyone applying for a first-time driver’s license in the state of New Mexico is required to pass a written driving exam/test, road test and vision test. Written exams are also required for motorcycle licenses and those that are expired for more than 5 years.

 

WHY YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE WRITTEN DRIVING EXAM/TEST

The written driver’s exam/test is designed to test your knowledge of driving procedures, road signs, regulations and laws. If you don’t pass the driving exam/test the first time, don’t worry; you may take the written exam up to 3 times in one year.

The best way to prepare for the written driver’s license exam is to study the New Mexico Driver manual.
