In part one of our two-part series, we will provide you with a few must-see places in New Mexico that you can add to your list of road trip destinations!

There’s nothing better than packing the car and hitting the open road with your friends, family, and more than a few travel snacks in tow. White Sands National Monument

Living in New Mexico, there’s a good chance that you’ve heard about the White Sands National Monument, and now is the perfect time to check it out! These dunes of white sand, located in the heart of Tularosa Basin, stretch as far as the eye can see, and they provide the perfect backdrop for all of your photos, especially if you stay until moonrise.

In addition to taking beautiful photos, you can also spend the day sledding down the dunes! This is a great activity for people of all ages, and it’s sure to leave you feeling worn out and ready for a good night’s sleep.

Pie Town

Who doesn’t love pie? If you and your road trip companions are fans of this circular dessert, then Pie Town is a must on your list of destinations. Located along U.S. Highway 60 in Catron County, this little town is known for its delicious pies and its annual Pie Festival on the second Saturday of September. Whether you’re a fan of berry pies, cream pies, or you want to try the New Mexico green chile apple pie, there’s no doubt that you’ll be able to satisfy your tastebuds in Pie Town.

Because this town is known for its pie, it only makes sense that there would be more than one pie shop — Pie-O-Neer Pies and Pie Town Cafe. However, the town is quite small, so these two shops have agreed to split the week so that neither have to compete! If you want to try pie from both while you’re on your road trip, make sure you plan your trip accordingly.
